OPET, which supports the preservation of the history of the region, starts to work in the Çıplak Village at another point in the Troy Region after Tevfikiye, which it has transformed into an "Archeo-Village" within the scope of the 2018 Trojan Year.OPET will transform the Çıplak Village, which contains elements, textures and stories about all layers representing the cultural heritage of the Anatolian tradition, into “Ethno-village”. Within the scope of the project, besides the physical arrangements that will give the village a different identity, development activities for the public will also be carried out.
Having transformed Tevfikiye Village, which is within the borders of Troy National Park, to Archeo-village, OPET continues its works in the region of Troy without slowing down. This time, the Çıplak Village next to the Troy Museum and Troy Ancient City is being renewed within the scope of the concept of "Ethno-village" derived from the word ethnography. OPET, which has been working for two years in Çanakkale Tevfikiye Village to realize the physical and social change of the region, has started implementations in Çıplak Village. In this context, the details of the new concept of Çıplak Village and the work to be done were shared with the press conference held in the multipurpose meeting hall in Çıplak Village Square. Hasan Ongu, Deputy Governor of Çanakkale and District Governor of Eceabat, Ferhat Yılmaz, Çanakkale Provincial Director of National Education, Erdem Karadağ, Çanakkale Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Ufuk Göçoğlu, Mokhtar of Çıplak Village and Nurten Öztürk OPET Board Founding Member also attended the meeting.
OPET Board Founding Member Nurten Öztürk said, “As an important continuation of the change we initiated with the Respect for the History Project, we are happy to complete the works for the physical and social change of Tevfikiye Village, which is the closest settlement to the Troya region. We have transformed Tevfikiye Village into an “Archeo-village” with its atmosphere, buildings and figures that make the Troya era as well as its historical and mythological values. We have turned Tevfikiye village into an Archeo-village, which is mentioned with epics and which is one of the most important historical heritages of our country to a break location during the visits to Troy Ancient City, and which has traces of the history of Troy. Now it is the turn of Çıplak Village. “A Unique Destination Will Be Added to the Tourism Circulation in the Region”
Prof. Dr. Rüstem Aslan of the Archeological Excavations of Troy, who was connected to the meeting by phone in live, pointed out, on the other hand, that the Ethno-village Project was complementary to the Troy Museum-Cultural Routes and Tevfikiye Archeo-village projects, which were implemented in the period starting with the 2018 Year of Troy and centered on the Troy Ruins. Indicating that Çıplak Village in Troy Historical National Park has an interesting history dating back to the 16th century, Aslan said, “Çıplak Village, in addition to the Trojan excavations, carries traces of Ottoman history and has witnessed the Çanakkale Wars. The cultural history of the region, traditional agricultural characteristics and rural heritage will be covered in the Ethno-village project. With this project, a new and original destination will be added to the tourism circulation in the region. ”
Hasan Ongu, Çanakkale Deputy Governor and Eceabat District Governor, started his speech by thanking OPET for the social and physical change in the Peninsula and its villages as part of the Respect for History Project. Ongu continued as follows: “Troy means thousands of years of history. Çanakkale is an important city that still houses the traces of Troy. The declaration of the Year of Troy in 2018 made a great contribution to the promotion of our country and city to world tourism. In this context, OPET has carried out physical and social studies in Tevfikiye Village, creating an important development for the people of the village, and reaching a potential that can host the visitors to the region in the best way. OPET will contribute to the tourism potential of our region in 2020 with the works it will carry out in Çıplak Village. What is an Ethno-Village?
The main axis of the works to be carried out in the Çıplak Village, which reflects the different historical and cultural layers of Anatolia is to create the concept of "Ethno-village", derived from the word ethnography, a branch of science that deals with man-made cultural elements. The project is designed to reflect this ethno-cultural heritage of the Çıplak Village, which contains elements, textures and stories about all layers representing the cultural heritage of the Anatolian tradition. In the works to be carried out by OPET, Çıplak Village will be enriched with contents that reflect its historical and cultural depth and richness. The work that will take place in the Çıplak Village which bears the traces of the birth of Troy and archeology, the Ottoman, the war period of the 20th century and the traces of the Republic are designed as a cross-section of the Turkish and Ottoman history of Çanakkale. In this program, the relationship of the travelers, the Archaeological studies that started with Schliemann and continued with the following archaeologists from the 17th century, during the Troy excavations, which were accepted as the beginning of the archeology science from 1870 onwards, with the Çıplak Village will be emphasized. At the same time, there will be narratives that have been conceptualized under the title of “living history” and that focus on agricultural culture. In Çıplak Village, where traces of traditional agriculture can still be found, it is planned to design a living space that conveys the history of the village to the visitors with unique motifs.
What Will Be Done by Opet in Çıplak Village?
- The village square, which includes the Çıplak Dede Tomb, the historical fountain and the village coffee, will be rearranged in accordance with the concept. In the arrangement of the square, features of the history of Troy excavations, the history of the Çıplak Village from the Ottoman times until today and the traditional agricultural practices applied in the village will be highlighted.
- Sales stands will be placed in the village square where villagers can sell their products.
- While the facades of the houses and garden walls will be painted, landscape works will be applied throughout the village.
- Patterns and decorations will be made on the windows and walls of the village houses in accordance with the concept.
- An abandoned village house will be organized as the 'Archeology House', which reflects the history of the Trojan excavations, a story progressing with finds and discoveries.
- A building next to the "Archeology House" will be organized as the "Local History House from the Ottoman Empire to the Present" and the history of agriculture, which is one of the richest ethnographic elements of the Anatolian geography, will be handled in the light of different finds and visual documents from the Çıplak and Troy regions.
- The building just behind the Local History House will be transformed into a village pension.
- A “Local Product Making House” will be established in a region close to the village square in accordance with hygienic rules and local products will be presented to visitors.
- The road starting from the village square and joining with the Troy Culture Route and connected to the Troy Museum will be arranged in accordance with the general texture as 'Archeology Road'.
- The main road starting from the entrance of Tevfikiye Village and reaching the Çıplak Village square will be organized as “Çıplak Road”. Along the road, information boards introducing the agricultural products of the region, products and motifs specific to the village will be placed and a different appearance will be given to the road with blooming and aesthetic elements.
- The trekking path starting from the village square and reaching the Peyan Cemetery will be reorganized under the name "Peyan Road".
- “Ethno-village” entrance tags will be placed to both entrances of the village.
Contribution to the Personal Development of the Regional People will be Ensured With Courses
Within the scope of the project, 'Diction, Local Food Products Making, Protocol Rules Course (Hospitality Art), History, English, Rural Tourism, Cleaning and Hygiene, Souvenir Making, Business and Social Life Communication, Occupational Health and Safety, Personal Development, Gift and Sewing Courses' will provide trainings to the local people in cooperation with Public Education Directorate in Çıplak Village Public Education Center.
